Amazing Artisitc Adam

Well done Adam who got our assembly award on Friday. Adam is an amazing artist and has been doing some fantastic clay work at school. Adam's clay dragon looked fantastic, he even managed to build wings out of clay, great work Adam.

Super Spellers

Making Music

The children have been doing so much amazing learning in music I almost don't know where to begin to tell you about it. We have been learning to keep a beat, about the difference between beat and rhythm, what an ostinato is and about playing melodies using the pentatonic scale! Wow! Today we each took a line of the poem we have been learning and created a melody to go with the words using the notes in the pentatonic scale. It was pretty tricky but we found that if we listened carefully and worked together we could do it!

Excellent Elisha

How could I have missed it!!!!
I must apologise for not having told you about the excellent work Elisha has been doing. Elisha got our assembly certificat on Friday for working extra hard in writing to add detail to her recounts to make them more interesting. Exceptional Elisha!

Clay Creatures

 

It has been a while since our last blog post! We have been so busy with our art, music and pe that we have not had any time. We made some wonderful clay dragons by rolling a piece of clay around a newspaper 'sausage' and then using what we had learnt about joining clay to add legs, tails, eyes and even wings. Mr Harvey is going to fire them for us in the school kiln this week, we can't wait for them to be finished!

Roz and Switch

Today our school had two special visitors from the DCC, Roz and her dog Switch. They came to school to talk to us about being safe around dogs. We learnt how a dog tells us to go away, how to approach a dog, how to pat a dog, and to always ask before you touch someone elses dog. We loved having them to visit!

The Marae

On Thurday last week the whole school went to the marae. When we came to school the teacher numberd us, we had numbers from 1 to 5. After that we got on the bus. When I got on the bus I slept under the chair, the bus trip was over 30 minutes! I got hot so I took off my jacket. When we got to the marae we had to take our bags off. When we heard the call, Mrs Kewne-Edwards called back to the people on the marae. It was kind of embarassing when we got to the marae we sat down on the wooden seats and then we had some speeche,s the talking was a long, long time. At last we got to do some activities, a lot of people did different ones, we did two or three each. I did not get to go on the playground.

Awesome Oliver!

Congratulations Oliver!! Oliver won our assembly award on Friday from Mrs Keiser for being an awesome enthustiastic learner. A little bird tells me Oliver was also very helpful to Mrs Keiser and made her day really great!

Alphabet soup

 

On Friday we read a fantastic story called Stone Soup. In the story the young man tricks the old lady into making some soup for him by saying he has a magic soup stone, but really the lady gives him all the ingredients to make the soup. We made alphabet and vegetable soup. When we were finished we had to write the instructions for making our soup and then we tried it. As you can see some of the children loved it!
